After one month absent due to respecting the fasting month, this October Jazz Break Revival is back! It’s Jazz Break Revival XV this time, and for this time it’s going to be very special.

In cooperation with Goethe Institut Jakarta and its program Serambi Jazz, KlabJazz together with Bumi Sangkuriang and Melinda Hospital present Henning Sieverts Quartett, a seriously stunning quartet from Germany. The band leader Henning Sieverts is a an outstanding bassist/cellist, composer and also journalist from München. Sieverts and friends come to Indonesia with a very interesting concept that we don’t see often.  They call it “Blauer Reiter”, a  combination of visual experience and musical journey bound together as one.

About 100 years ago, a group of artists joined together and called themselves “Der Blaue Reiter”, in English it’s “The Blue Rider”. They were famous for pioneering a revolution of colors and abstraction from the idyllic foothills of the Alps of Murnau. Together with Hugo Siegmeth (tenor & soprano saxophone, flute, bass clarinet), Till Martin (tenor & soprano saxophone, flute, bass clarinet) and Bastian Jütte (drums), Henning Sieverts is going to show his interpretation of some paintings of “der Blaue Reiter” in the music form. One piece for each painting. That’s why it’s going to be a combination of musical and visual experience. Colors, sound, and sound colors become one. You can read more info about Henning Sieverts, his Quartett and the concept background by following this link.

Wait, that’s not all. We are going to have Imam Pras Quartet as well. Imam Pras is a very familiar name to Bandung jazz lovers and admired by many musicians in Indonesia as well. He’s one of the senior pianist with admirable skill. He started his jazz journey from a very young age and still doing it until today. He learned from many great ones like Elfa Secioria, Bambang Nugroho and also Indra Lesmana before he started to train many pianists later on. Some of his students has emerged as a great pianist today. Imam Pras is going to perform also in a quartet formation, with Boyke Priyo Utomo (tenor sax), Rudy Zulkarnaen (acoustic bass) and Ariefandi “Ari Aru” (drums). This quartet also features Lia Amalia on vocal. Just like how they gave out a great show at Jazz Break Revival XIII, I’m sure they are going to give their best in this 15th edition as well.

Don’t miss the performance of these two great quartet from two countries for Jazz Break Revival XV will be held at Balai Pertemuan Bumi Sangkuriang like always.
