UGM Jazz 2009 featuring JavaJazz, Barry Likumahuwa Project ft Benny Likumahuwa, Syaharani, Ello and Bertha
After a very successful and historical comeback of JavaJazz at Taman Ismail Marzuki last Thursday (December 10,2009), the phenomenal group of maestros will continue their path to blast Yogyakarta. It’s going to happen at the UGM JAZZ, a big routine jazz event that has already been held no less than 12 times.
This is a very special jazz year for UGM (Gadjah Mada University). Because this is the first time UGM Jazz appears 2 times in the same year. Following the success of the first UGM JAZZ 2009 back in May 23, 2009 featuring Balawan, Ireng Maulana, Kiboud Maulana and Maylaffayza, The second UGM Jazz 2009 is ready to come again right at the closing month of 2009. Celebrating the anniversary of UGM, the event this time is made very special presenting JavaJazz, the legendary group that just made their return after 11 long years in silence.

JavaJazz was dissapeared right after the saxophonist, Embong Rahardjo passed away. Now, as the band rise again, they bring the new formation, surprisingly with double guitars. Combining the first and second formation’s guitarist, Donny Suhendra and Dewa Budjana, JavaJazz is ready to sail again on the jazz scene for a long time to come. So, the most recent formation of JavaJazz consists of the former wonder kid, Indra Lesmana (keyboard/piano), Donny Suhendra (guitar), Dewa Budjana (guitar), AS Mates (bass) and Gilang Ramadhan (drums). A while ago Indra Lesmana explained many things about the return of JavaJazz and also the new concept they offer without changing the spirit of JavaJazz. (check out our exclusive interview with Indra Lesmana) . Their brand new album called “Joy, Joy, Joy” which he mentioned on the interview now is released. The CD will be available at the concert.
Beside JavaJazz, there will also be many stars to participate at UGM Jazz. The fast-rising groove band Barry Likumahuwa Project will be there, featuring Barry’s own dad, the senior and multi-talented Benny Likumahuwa. Syaharani, the female Indonesian jazz icon that’s recently been active building her ESQI:EF Syaharani and the Queenfireworks will definately give more taste with her presence. The R&B vocalist Ello will be there as well, and last but not least the event will feature Bertha. To make it more interesting, Farhan and Sarah Sechan will host the event.
