Sunday Jazz XII at Potluck Kitchen

The first week of December has come. And that means Sunday Jazz XII at Potluck Kitchen will be served normally again after 3 editions were being used to collect donations for the victims of several natural disasters that happened in some locations of Indonesia as a part of the Jazz/Blues Care program. Jazz will be served chilled once again at the cozy and jazzy Potluck Kitchen this Sunday. If you live in Bandung or will be here this Sunday, it’s time for you to jazzin’ up your resting day to the max.

KlabJazz and Potluck Kitchen have prepared cool selections for this edition. First, we will have Gega and Tesla once again. Last time at Sunday Jazz VIII on November 7 they both delivered “They Music of Joe Henderson” nicely. Now they are ready to collaborate once again by taking on John Coltrane. “Tribute to John Coltrane”, that’s their theme this time, where surely we will have the chance to enjoy some of the classic Coltrane’s hits in the shape of guitar duo. The lineup continues on with Sonny Akbar Trio. In his young age, Sonny Akbar has established himself as a great jazz pianist especially in Bandung. But he’s not only playing on stage, he’s also active in teaching. Sonny Akbar is an outstanding pianist/keyboardist that know how to transform a set of complex chords into something that could still be enjoyed even by the non jazz music listeners. Wide range of explorations used to come from him, and it’s always very entertaining. This time he will play in the formation of trio.

Then we will have Juicy Luicy. We still remember this band when they gave a strong performance in the band audition of Kampoeng Jazz last March that brought them as one of the finalist to appear at the main event. At that time Juicy Luicy surprised everyone with their high energic appearance in the cool groovy soulfunk concept like the one we all loved back in the 70’s in complete lineups including the horn sections (trumpet, saxophone and trombone). It will be nice to have them at this edition of Sunday Jazz. Boby Limijaya Trio is next on the lineup. Boby Limijaya is a pianist graduated from Berklee College of Music. He’s just returned home and ready to demonstrate his skill to the jazz fans in Bandung. Boby has been showing his ability even when he was still in Berklee, like when he presented his own compositions at the Berk Recital Hall, Boston, last July. After being active with his quintet formation, this time he will appear in the shape of trio, together with Kevin Yosua (bass) and William Sugianto (drums). Last but not least we will see the winner of 2010’s 33rd JGTC (Jazz Goes to Campus) competition, Fifteen Plus. This is an amazing group consists mostly of mid-teen musicians. You’ll amazed to see their ability of playing jazz in such a young age. For you who missed their performance at JGTC like we did, it’s time for us to have them while they are still hot after the JGTC showdown.

All these lineup will give their colorful signatures to this edition of Sunday Jazz. Join us if you happen to be in Bandung this Sunday and let’s give a jazz treatment to our souls!
