AKORDEON

Bintang Indrianto (fretless bass)
Kiki Dunung (kendang)
Taufan Siswadi (drums)
Imam Garmansyah (accordion)
A breakthrough..
Giving a breath of new sound, this might be the main reason from this 4-person “studio project”. Will they make it?
One thing for sure, by pushing the akordeon (in English: accordion) to the front is already an interesting effort to create the curiousity effect. Imagine what would be the result of pushing the accordion to the front, with interesting collaboration between some instruments like fretless bass, drums and also ..kendang (the double headed traditional drums) !
Just as we all know, accordion is a reed organ in a portable form. According to the history, accordeon was found in the beginning of 19th century. Today, accordion is used to many kinds of music. From classical to folk, world music and so on. Many people believe that accordion is a “romantic” instrument.
Now then, what Akordeon as a band is all about? This is a collaboration project consists of Bintang Indrianto, Kiki Dunung, Taufan Siswadi and the youngest player in the group, the accordion player, Imam Garmansyah. Fusing and mixing the musics, based on the “mixed marriage” between various music instruments, that’s what this “new but old” group offers. And as the result, they do create new themes and colors of music. At least that’s the essence we can grab from their independent album with the same title, Akordeon. (Read our review of AKORDEON)
If one starts to get fed up with the same standard sound from jazz recordings and performers we used to hear lately, Akordeon is really need to be checked, learned and understood. Moving from the phase of introduction, one should start to understand their music, and hopefully later could love their unique compositions.
One note has to be underlined though, eventhough accordion is pushed to the front, that doesn’t mean would dominate the whole compositions. Accordion, together with any other instruments that are played in this group actually get quite the same portion. All sounds combined proportionally.
Beside that, they have invited singers too in their debut album. From Sherly’O, Cecilia Ventura, Steve Wilson, Damaris Moreles to Joe Parthenos. As a conclusion, the music of Akordeon is not the kind of music that would be difficult to listen. Let’s prove it together!
BEATBOP : Indra Aziz Project with Riza Arshad

Riza Arshad (fender rhodes)
Indra Aziz (alto sax, voices, beatbox)
Indra Perkasa (double bass)
Billy Tamnge aka BdaBX (human beatbox, voices)
There has been some collaboration among them in the past, but this is the very first time all of them gathered together in one group. What this new formed group offers is presenting original jazz composition with the beats and rhythms using human’s mouth. It could sound a bit like semi-electronica, because the sounds produced from human beatbox would sound like MIDI. The role of Riza Arshad in this group is big. One of the reason is because the idea was first come from him. After developing the idea, this group was established as the result. Almost all the compositions originally comes from Indra Aziz, also from Riza Arshad. Some compositions that will be presented includes Indra Aziz composition from 2006 Odd Journey and new composition called Miguel Vernon.
This concept isn’t new, because some of the international group has done it. Name some like Lilo Rantala Trio with Felix Zenger as the beatboxer. Then Mouth Organ, the duet between hammond organ and beatboxer, and so on. But this is the first time to bring it into the tradition of original jazz composition with full of improvisation.
Here’s a little profile of Riza Arshad and Indra Aziz.
