Saung Jazz Presents: Christmas Jazz Concert with Halfwhole Project

The two-monthly program of IFI (Institut Français Indonesia) Bandung supported by KlabJazz named Saung Jazz is coming again in a very special theme! In the last edition, they collaborated with TreeSpeak Production presenting the first Jazzspeak Festival, featuring some of the best jazz musicians in the independent scene, both from Jakarta and Bandung at the end of October, 2012 (Read our coverage here: http://jazzuality.com/jazz-event-report/jazzspeak-festival-2012-the-report/). Now as we are in the month of December where many of us celebrate Christmas, you can celebrate it early on December 11, 2012 especially if you live in Bandung. It’s been confirmed that the last edition of Saung Jazz for year 2012 will be filled with Christmas spirit. Christmas Jazz Concert, that’s how they called it, is on the way, featuring the stunning straightahead group Halfwhole Project.

Halfwhole Project is still less than 2 years old. We first saw them around the first months last year with slightly different formation. Later on young saxophonist Kenneth Timotius Djaja joined three members of the first formation  Christ Stanley (piano), Edward Manurung (drums) and Gallang Dalimunthe (bass), quickly they found chemistry to one another, then the rest is history. Together they graced many stages, from the local circle all the way to Jakarta’s big events.

They are all still considerably young, but most of them already have more than enough experiences on stage. By combining forces, Halfwhole Project have a lot to share. Look at the way Christ Stanley pours his spontaneous jazz chords above the keys, the powerful drumming of Edward, the steady bassline of Galang, and of course the wild, lively saxophone playing of Kenneth. When  you watch this group, you can get cool straightahead and entertaining stage act at the same time. Yes, they play straightahead really well, but they can go further embracing other sides of jazz too. Will they swing their way this time, as most of us might relate Christmas jazz with swing, or will they still keep the theme in their joyous boppin’ straightahead? Or maybe, they will bring other flavors too? No matter what, as we have seen them many times, they will merry your heart even before you reach Christmas. To make it even merrier, the group will collaborate with two guest stars, Adhie Wilhelmus Soejipto and Agnes Kaunang.

Since the event will come really soon, we hope this article finds you well. The show is going to be presented as usual at Auditorium IFI Bandung, located right in front of Bandung Electronic Center (BEC). With the ticket price as low as IDR 20.000 you can get good quality of live jazz performance bringing the Christmas spirit. Think of it. So while we’re waiting for the 25th of December, it’s time to set our mood early with this special Christmas Jazz Concert. Well, look forward to see you there.
