Palembang Jazz Festival

We’re very happy to see that jazz now has flourished all over the country. Not only the big cities like Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya and the likes of those, but also in any other cities such as Palembang, the capital of South Sumatra. This city has been pulsing with jazz a lot lately by the appearance of many jazz artists in various successful events. And now, we gladly announce that a jazz event will come again in Palembang, and it’s called Palembang Jazz Festival”.

Palembang Jazz Community, Trijaya 87.6 FM and PIM – Palembang present another interesting event for all the jazz lovers in Palembang and beyond. Following the success of Beben, Harry Toledo, Balawan and Nita Aartsen as guest stars, this time Palembang Jazz Festival will feature OTTI JAMALUS and YANCE MANUSAMA QUARTET.

This event is set to be held at one of the biggest mall in Palembang. According to Acil, the promotional manager from Palembang Indah Mall (PIM), the mall is seriously targeting jazz segment and continuously supporting any events from Palembang Jazz Community.

Taking the concept of combination between Music Clinic and Live Performance from various jazz bands in Palembang, Palembang Jazz Festival will reach both entertainment and educational sides. Otti Jamalus and Yance Manusama Quartet will become the clinicians for this occasion and also performers, also you will get Palembang jazz bands such as New Orleans, Erchink, Pure Acoustic, Locotoum, Jazzier, Blue Drive, Ayu and Father and many more, showing their skills on stage.

Zaenal Hanani, the chief of Palembang Jazz Community explained that the event has always been held at the mall in order to bring jazz to public, to make them easy to access jazz music. The event has always been made for free, without any entrance fee once so ever.

Palembang Jazz Festival will happen on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 from 4 PM to 22 PM. Music Clinic will come first, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, attended by band representatives from high schools, junior high schools and universities, also from music schools in Palembang. This Clinic is also open for everyone, and it’s free. Just bring yourself to PIM if you’re interested.

Adji, the public relation of Palembang Jazz Community and Operation Manager of Trijaya 87,6 FM stated that this event is meant to be opening for more Palembang Jazz Festival to come. It’s planned to be an annual event that will grow bigger, involving Sriwijaya University and the South Sumatra government.
