Imagine this. Playing the simple form of jazz with spontanity right in the middle of society, surrounded by houses and the residents who do their daily activities as usual. That’s always been the concept of NGAYOGJAZZ, that has been prepared since 2006. Following the success of the previous Ngayogjazz, this year Ngayogjazz is on again. Located at Pasar Seni Gabusan Bantul Yogyakarta, this is an event that believed will bring jazz down to earth, blending harmoniously with local people. If you still think that jazz only suits the rich and exclusive class, you got to check this one and see that actually jazz can be friendly and accepted in open arms by just about everyone.

ngayogjazz 2009The concept came from an artiste Djaduk Ferianto, that found his calling to change this wrong perception. He believes jazz is an open and dynamic music, flexible, and surely could be appreciated by all segments existed in the society, also by all the different local cultures. That’s why from him we got several surprising jazz events in the most unlikely places, like Jazz Gunung (Mountain Jazz) at Java Banana Bromo, 2000 m height an the mountain last July, and of course this series of Ngayogjazz. The results proved him right. Jazz IS an open and dynamic form of music that can touch the heart of everyone.

This year’s Ngayogjazz Festival will be held at Pasar Seni Gabusan Bantul, Yogyakarta. Check the map below.
