Hong ulun basuki langgeng. This warm welcome greetings of Tengger tribe will greet you once again at the 2nd Jazz Gunung 2010 (Mountain Jazz 2010). Last year all the attendances have witnessed the unforgettable experience of jazz served high up on the mountain. The tagline “Cool Music, Fresh Air” or in Indonesian they refer to “Lebih Asik, Lebih Segar” (“Cooler, Fresher) is definately perfect to describe the different nuance you will get from this annual event.
How often do you see jazz presented on the mountain? It’s going to be held on Tengger Mountain at Java Banana Bromo, located more than 2000 meters high (about 6500 feet). Clear blue sky, fresh and cold weather and beautiful landscapes will bring a new feeling for you to enjoy jazz on a different level. It’s jazz at the new height with a new sensation, something you won’t experience in any other place.
Wanting to give an early notice to people, a press conference for Jazz Gunung 2010 was held at Griya Perbanas Setiabudi Jakarta. The message is clear: They are doing it again this year after being successfully jazzin’ up the Bromo Mountain last year. (Check out our report of last year’s Jazz Gunung). This time it’s going to be bigger and better at the same venue. It’s an absolutely beautiful venue, surrounded by Tengger highland, located at Java Banana, Wonotoro, Sukapura in Probolinggo, East Java. Jazz Gunung is going to show and let the audience feel the difference of enjoying jazz in nature just like what they did last year.
Attended by the guy who has this brilliant idea Sigit Pramono, one of the founder of Jazz Gunung together with Kua Etnika and a well praised artiste Butet Kartarajasa, we could actually feel the ambience right from the press conference. Sigit Pramono is a big jazz fans and photographer that found his calling to do the “rebranding” of Bromo tourist site. The organizers have many things on their agenda through the Jazz Gunung. Not to only share music to people, but also rebranding and bringing the tourists to Indonesia. Sigit Pramono and Butet Kartarajasa are trying to bring Indonesia back to on its feet in tourism, they are trying to give a different side of Bromo – not only a place to watch the sunrise, but you can also do and enjoy a lot of other things as well. There is hope that they will be able to do it in many other mountains in Indonesia one day, but for now they want to focus on mount Bromo first.
If last year they only had 2 sets of performers, Kua Etnika and Djaduk Ferianto ft Trie Utami, this year they are going to add more artists. On the line up we have ESQI:EF with Syaharani and Donny Suhendra, I Wayan Balawan and Batuan Ethnic Fusion, C Two Six – C26 Surabaya Jazz Community, Androginn – Malang Jazz Forum and Monday Night Band – Yogyakarta. These musicians are going to give one experience that no one could forget. Appeared at 2000 meter above the sea level, this could be the highest jazz performance ever held in Indonesia, and for sure you will not want to miss this chance. ‘This is not like any other concerts. This is our party, the people’s party, where everyone could just join in, enjoy the great scenery and superb music that will be played by the skillful musicians.” said Butet Kartarajasa.
Imagine this: a jazz event blends in with the nature in a very beautiful open space surrounded by stunning nature scenery. It’s the chance for us to feel the unforgettable sensation of caressing the nature with jazz. It’s the place for us to feel the magic of jazz joining the nature at the highest stage.
So why don’t you guys mark a calender now! Jazz Gunung will be held in Tengger Highland on Saturday July 3, 2010 on the front yard of Java Banana Bromo Lodge, Cafe & Gallery. Experience the nature and great music where you will never regret!
