JAMIROQUAI PRESS CONFERENCE with JAY KAY
This is the report from the JAMIROQUAI press conference that held at Mulia Hotel, Senayan, Jakarta, last night, April 7, 2009. This press conference hosted by Java Festival Production and led by the JFP chairman, Peter F Gontha, Paul Dankmeyer (Program/Festival Director, JFP) and the iconic Jay Kay.
Just couple of hours before the Legislative Election, thousands of people will fill Sentul City Convention Center to see one of the greatest event ever held in Indonesia, the “LA Lights Concert Presents JAMIROQUAI”. The waiting will finally over really soon. This event will happen today, Wednesday, April 8, 2009. The gate will be opened at 6:30 pm. DIMI is the opening act will start to perform at 8 pm.
Many people doubt this LA Lights Concert Presents JAMIROQUAI, because the event will happen only a couple of hours before the election. Java Festival Production and all the medias, including jazzuality.com has been asked about this many, many times. Java Festival Production as the organizer has finally got the confirmation from the Indonesian National Police, saying that an event like LA Lights Concert Presents JAMIROQUAI can still be held, eventhough we are into the election just a couple of hours away. If a big event with thousands of audience like this can run well, the world, with the help of all the reporting medias, will know that Indonesia is a safe place for them to visit, and for the international artists to have their live concert.
JAMIROQUAI came to Jakarta straight from Malaysia, after participating in the opening of Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia three days earlier. This very popular group, one of the biggest group from UK and has millions of fans all around the world, has never been to Indonesia before. the iconic Jay Kay (Jason Kay) formed this group, with many changing formations over the years. Now, the longest serving members of the band are Jay Kay himself and drummer Derrick McKenzie, and they both ready to give an unforgettable performance. JAMIROQUAI established as the musical outlet at first, after the failure of Jay Kay’s attemp to be the Brand New Heavies‘ main vocalist. JAMIROQUAI is acid jazz/funk/disco group that has made many hits, including seperti “Little L”, “Cosmic Girl”, “Virtual Insanity”, “Canned Heat”, “Space Cowboy”, “Runaway” and many more. Along in the group’s career, they have released 7 albums, including “Emegency on Planet Earth”, “Travelling Without Moving”, “The Return of the Space Cowboy” and their latest release, “High Times: Singles 1992-2006″.
LA Lights Concert Presents Jamiroquai, Yes It’s True is also supported by BNI, Coca Cola and many other sponsors. This event will also be used as “Rock The Vote” program. JFP and all the sponsors will work together to socialize the election and urge everybody, especially the first time voters to vote in the morning. It’s time to show that we are a big nation that can hold the democratic election without problem, and life can still go on normally, and of course, a big event like this can still happen due to the election day.
