We’re happy to announce that Jakarta International  Jazz Festival 2009, or better known as JAKJAZZ 2009 has confirmed! It’s going to happen just several day after a whole jazzin’ day at Jazz Goes To Campus 2009, on November 4-6, 2009. It’s going to be a grand “3 days jazz fiesta” just like the previous ones.

This year Jakarta International Jazz Festival (JakJazz) has reached the 11th anniversary. It’s great to see JakJazz can still tackle all the obstacles year after year and still claim the spot of one of the biggest jazz event in the world. Jakjazz is also one of the longest running jazz event. It’s held every late November or early December, presenting all kinds of jazz in multicultural harmony, and at the same time maintaining its unique and intimacy. Indoor and outdoor stages are prepared to meet the needs of all jazz lovers.

The force behind JakJazz is Indonesian senior jazz musician, Ireng Maulana. He’s been fighting consistantly to make this event available from time to time, still stand tall and strong after the struggling 20 years. It’s a really big effort taken by the brave man, and we give him all the respect for that.

JakJazz welcomes a new chairman,  Lilik Wibisono, a fertilizer businessman who is still young, 35 years old. It’s a breath of fresh air for the committee, hopefully this year JakJazz will be better organized and start getting some profit they really deserve.

jakjazz-2009That was one of the news we got today (Saturday, October 31, 2009) at the JakJazz 2009 opening ceremony at Pejompongan area, Jakarta. There were some other important news of course. The theme this time is “JakJazz Untuk Bencana Alam” or “JakJazz for Natural Disaster”. As we all know, many parts of Indonesia has been hit by several big earthquakes. So JakJazz will donate some of their incomes to support the victims of this natural disaster. Another big news is, there will be no special shows this time. With the three days pass or the daily pass you hold, you can watch all the performers at all stages. The official opening ceremony was also attended by some of the senior jazz musicians. Besides Ireng Maulana, the founder and the man behind all JakJazz since 1988, there were also Benny Likumahuwa, Kiboud Maulana, Syaharani, Didiek SSS, Mathes and one representative of Galaxy Big Band from Japan.  Syaharani says “We hope this year’s JakJazz will be as successful as ever”. “Jazz has become a life style, a trend, and with JakJazz we can enjoy jazz better, without having to face over-crowded spaces.” she continues. The ceremony was also served “tumpeng” (cone of boiled rice, as a symbol of wishing luck in traditional meaning). And with that JakJazz has officially announced.
