ITB Big Band Concert 2009
Following the success of last year’s event, ITB BIG BAND CONCERT 2009 is ready to happen again soon. ITB Big Band Concert has been consistantly held almost every year since 1991 as a part of annual event made by Marching Band Waditra Ganesha ITB (MBWG). While the music trend in Indonesia is not going to the swinging big band direction, I’m happy to see that ITB as one of the big campus that has always been connected with jazz for such a long time still shows their big effort to preserve one of the oldest genre of jazz to fit the modern day.
The statement came from the organizer that the event is meant to be the source for big band lovers or every music fans out there to give their appreciation to jazz, and at the same time tries to re-introduced the classic pieces of big band formation to everyone who might have forgotten how glorious it was back then. ITB Big Band Concert is the one and only big band event existed in Indonesia. 11 years in service is not a short amount of time, it shows consistancy, endurance, strength and spirit, and that’s something we should appreciate.
Last year’s ITB Big Band Concert 2008 was crowded with enthusiastic audience. The special appearance of the legendary Margie Segers in an amazing session with Salamander Big Band has placed the event into a new height. This year the big band is marching on. Using the theme “Jazz Swing It”, this year’s concert will be delivered with such innovation. Not only offering standard jazz big band compositions, but the event will also provides popular songs in new re-arrangement into jazz in the shape of big band. By doing that, hopefully ITB Big Band Concert 2009 could reach the heart of big band jazz lovers and also promoting big band to the wider scale of society.
