jakjazz fever

And the heat is on. “A Wholle Lotta Jazz” tagline came to reality last Saturday Night (November 8th 2008). Dji Sam soe Super Premium JakJazz Fever 2008, that’s the event which took place at Paris Van Java Mall (PVJ), Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This event was a pre-event, made as an opening and warming up for the main event which will be held soon, from 28th-30th November 2008 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Eventhough it was supposed to be a warming up event, the result was a lot bigger and better than that. Big applause and enthusiasm from the audience from the beginning to the end was unbelievable. All the performers were giving out the best of them, and they successfully shown how big the main event is going to be.

Hundreds of people gathered together to witness the amazing show. JakJazz Fever 2008 started with an audition show to search for fresh new talent to get the chance to participate in Jakarta International Jazz Festival 2008 (JakJazz 2008). Then, the music performance was opened by Bayu and Tesla, the dynamic duo that just formed 5 months ago. This duo came from Klabjazz, they played difficult compositions which surprisingly were not difficult at all to enjoy. After that, Syaharani & The Queenfireworks came on stage, with their attractive and energetic performance. Syaharani & The Queenfireworks proved that every kinds of music can blend together perfectly in jazz. There were blues, funk even dance lounge style in their music, and what they delivered were just amazing. Syaharani’s deep vocal fits perfectly with the concept. As the night went colder, the stage got warmer. Tompi appeared shortly after with a great performance. He explored and gave everything out. Wide range of vocal, interactivity, very entertaining and playful. He even mimicing the sound of instruments like trumpet to voice like Donald Duck on stage, and that gave him huge applause and cheer from the audience.

And that’s not all. The closing show came later on as a big surprise. All the legendary and famous jazz artists of Indonesia appeared together on stage, giving out one of the best jam session I’ve ever witnessed. It was a great spontanious show. Many talented artists like Ireng Maulana (guitar), Idang Rasjidi & Sam Panuwun (keyboard), Harry Toledo (bass), Benny Likumahuwa (thrombone), Didiek SSS (saxophone), Rudi Subekti (drum) with Syaharani, Tompi, and the legendary Margie Segers on vocals jammed together showing all the best out of them, spontaniously, and that was just incredible. All the crowd were just into it and they cheered joyously until the end.

All in all, The Dji Sam soe Super Premium JakJazz Fever 2008 was a huge success, as Ireng Maulana, the man behind JakJazz has said. Just at the small stage and small place a great event could be made and people really enjoyed it. “This is what make jazz so special, with all the limitation and boundary people can still enjoy the music” said Ireng Maulana. So far the preparations are still on schedule. One artist walked out because of the travel warning given by the Australian goverment, but that won’t destroy the soul of the event at all. “Everything is still under control and progressing as planned”, Ireng continued.

Dji Sam soe Super Premium JakJazz Fever 2008 has introduced us to the wondeful and colorful world of jazz. The freedom of expression, solid colaboration, high skill and passion blended together in harmony, in one soul of jazz. This is a mini version for a big main event, JakJazz 2008 that will be held soon in Jakarta. You can imagine how the main event will be with this amazing warming up event. Make sure you won’t miss it. JakJazz 2008 is coming, and it’s A Whole Lotta Jazz. See you there!
