jakjazz 2009, jakjazz, a touch of jazz, lica cecato, curtis king, galaxy big band, farah di, valtinho anastacio, ireng maulana

Held in a humble terrace of Jakjazz Office in Pejompongan, over a cup of coffee or tea and little snacks Ireng Maulana and team apologize to everyone for the issue regarding Jakjazz. Early last week we recieved a sad news that Jakarta Jazz International Festival (JakJazz Festival) 2009 will be postponed until next year. Ireng Maulana as the brain for this great event sent his apology to us jazz lovers and media about the sudden change of plan. These changes occur as the sponsor suspended the fund for the event so suddenly three weeks ago, and sadly for the whole team they really have to suspend the festival until next year.

Yet the suspension of Jakjazz does not mean there will be no event at all. As planned for the date of JakJazz 09, on the 4th, 5th and 6th of December Ireng Maulana and team will still held an event by the name of A Touch Of Jazz , still three days of jazz in Jakarta.

Check out carefully the info below!

  • On the 4th of December held at Pondok Indah Mall II Jakarta at 7:00PM-9:00 PM (Western Indonesian Standard Time)
with the performances of Ari Kurniawan & Friends (Indonesia) and Time Wrap (USA/Australia/UK) – FREE
  • On the 5th of December still held at Pondok Indah Mall II Jakarta at 7:00PM – 9:00 PM (Western Indonesian Standard Time)
with the performances of Galaxy Big Band (Japan) and D’Viaz (Indonesia) – FREE
  • The sum of all three days event is on the 6th of December, held at Aiman Planet Lounge, Lagoon Tower Sultan Hotel Jakarta at 06:30 PM – 00:00 PM with the performances of :

This events show that Jakjazz still exist, they still keep the faith and still will strive and scramble for jazz. For almost 11 years of the first Jakjazz in 1988 Ireng Maulana and team been struggling to keep this event alive every year they will not stop this time. Ireng Maulana also said earlier in the Press Conference “This is a jazz event, Jakjazz is a jazz event not a commercial event.”

a-touch-of-jazz3A little sneak peak for Jakjazz 2010 was also given earlier. They will still keep Betawi style as they are keeping the name of Jakjazz (Jakarta Jazz International Festival) and they will also give Indonesian ethnics in each of the three main stage next year. This festival will also help jazzers from different part of the world to learn Indonesian culture and for Indonesian jazzers to learn different cultures. To tell Indonesian young generation that Jazz is not about the name of the jazzer but it’s about the music. They will give a pre-Jakjazz concert in Yogyakarta and Solo before the main event next year and with this Ireng Maulana and team hope next year will be so much better then this year and they will go back to basic of Jazz. They will give a show that present not the name of the jazzer, but the ambience with great jazz music where everyone from young to old, boys and girls, men and women can enjoy and have fun in Jazz.

So, see you in A Touch of Jazz this weekend, spare your time for jazz and we’ll make sure you will have a great jazzin’ weekend.
