The 32nd JGTC Road Show Jakarta at Margo City: The Report
Margo Friday Jazz is a regular weekly jazz event that held at Margo City, Depok from 8 PM onwards. This event exists through the partnership between Benny Likumahuwa and Incream, with Budi Waskito as the man running it. On November 20, Margo Friday Jazz’ session was made special in cooperation with Jazz Goes to Campus (JGTC), as the JGTC Road Show reached the final tour at Margo after visiting Bandung and Yogyakarta several days ago.
When we arrived, 21st Night was already on stage. 21st Night is an interesting funky group consists of Yogie (Vocal/ Acoustic Guitar), Aryo (Drum), Joey (Bass), Vicky (Guitar), and Kido (Keyboard). It was crowded with the audiences that were mostly girls. They all looked enthusiast to see the show. On stage 21st Night sang “Terbaik Untukmu”. This song was popular among the audience as we noticed lots of them sang the song together. In the middle of their session, they promoted the 32nd JGTC which is going to come really soon, on November 29, 2009. They told a story with no ending, because they want to keep the ending until the JGTC main event. After singing together with the audience, they asked two of Soulvibe vocalists, Rizqi Rizaldi and Bayu Adiputra to join them on stage.
Then Soulvibe took the stage from 21st Night. With the rest of the band, Ramadhan Handy (bass), Frans Martatko (keyboards), Adhika Winasis (guitar), Muhammad Caesar Rizal (drums), and Adrianto Ario Seto (synthesizer) they brought different music color right away. Soulvibe only brought 3 songs, but nonetheless they entertained the audience completely. The energetic performance and cool stage appearance was delivered as usual. Just like the 21st Night, they promoted JGTC by promising a story that will only be told at JGTC. I think it’s the smart way of promoting.
Margo City and Margo Friday Jazz gave each 21st Night and Soulvibe a souvenir as an appreciation. Margo Friday Jazz Home Band took over the event by presenting bebop, swing and also some of John Coltrane’s songs. At that time, some people had left the venue, so we could see these promising young talents from closer range.
After their performance, Komunitas Jazz Kemayoran (KJK) came on with the band named “Lakonik”, playing 3 songs: “Summertime”, “You Are The Universe” and “My Funny Valentine”. Then the last session that becomes a must for almost all jazz event appeared. It was the jam session. We got a surprise at the jam session. The drummer, shockingly was a small kid from 1st grade of elementary school, Nathan. Another future talent to look for was Ian, that played in the whole 3 sessions, from Margo Friday Jazz Home Band, KJK part and also the jam session.
Overall, the show was really well done. It was entertaining and successfully grabbed the public attention, especially by the performance of 21st Night and Soulvibe that are really popular among the teenagers today.
Again, the message was sent successfully. Don’t miss the 32nd JGTC!
