The 32nd JGTC Competition: The Winner is Announced
“The Young Jazz Competition and I was very much impressed by how the young can play Jazz with their heart and soul” that was a quote from Oele Pattiselanno – the legendary Indonesian guitarist that acted as one of the judge in the competition. Yes indeed, the competition was very much entertaining and full of tense. The 32nd Jazz Goes To Campus Final Jazz Competition held in EX Plaza Indonesia managed to get a great attention from so many jazz and non-jazz lovers that surprisingly mostly were teenagers; with this we managed to kick-off the impression that jazz is ‘music for the old’.
Presenting 9 band competing for the price of two to four million rupiah and a shot to play at the 32nd Jazz Goes To Campus (JGTC) that will be held at Faculty of Economics in Universitas Indonesia (UI) Depok. That was huge. This competion was really a heat to jazz. Summit Soul, 414, Sundaze, 4sixteenth, Dimas Ario and Friends, Kevin Suwandary Jazz Trio, Soulata, Kultus and Halfdim that came from different universities in Indonesia such as Universitas Pelita Harapan and Universitas Indonesia which is the host of the big event itself, showed their skills in Jazz. Summit Soul, Sundaze, Halfdim and Dimas Ario and Friend as the first four band performing in this competition gave such a great atmosphere despite of the buzzing crowds. Almost everyone; supporters, friends or even just passer-bys were all entertained by their show. Special performances by Raisa, Dhisa – a new comer with her first single “Aku Masih Jomblo”, Endah n’ Rhesa added up the warmth of jazz. The competition went on with the remaining 5 bands to compete that showed their skill up to the max. With More critics and more input from the three commentators: Barry Likumahuwa – best Indonesia Bassist Player, the living legend, senior guitarist Oele Pattiselanno and Frans Sartono – a writter in Kompas and jazz critics. These comments that came from the panel of judges managed to give a little spine shiver to the contestants. And after a great deal of jazz, superb talents from the contestants and a long jazzin’ day in EX Plaza Indonesia we finally reach the final. when every band has the same hope: to win the jazz competition. Yet they got to keep the tense and hope a little bit longer as we were entertained by Oele Pattiselanno who jammed with Kevin Suwandary Jazz Trio and Barry Likumahuwa who jammed with Gabriella Sava Putri – 414 keyboardist, Dimas Aditya Pradipta – drummer from 4sixteenth, and last year best guitarist Henry.
Then finally, here comes the news! The winners for the best player are:
Best Guitarist: Andri Wibowo – 414
Best Bassist: Jupiter Galileo – 414
Best Drummer: Dimas Aditya Pradipta – 4sixteenth
Best Keyboardist: Gabriella Sava Putri – 414

Best Band Performance: Soulata
The winner for the JGTC Final Jazz Competition are:
third place is 4sixteenth.
The runner up is Kevin Suwandary Jazz Trio and
the winner is 414.
According to Barry Likumahuwa the winner of this year Final Jazz Competition is surprisingly at the same level as any senior jazzer in Indonesia. They managed to play and perform like they have been into jazz for a very long time. Barry personally hope that they will keep playing jazz like this and mingle with their senior to enhance their skill to the next level. Almost the same words came from Oele Pattiselanno that he wished that these young jazzer could keep up their good work and keep on learning as jazz will never die.
