A Touch of Jazz : A Special Treat from JakJazz Day 2
Again, it was a big Jazz night in Pondok Indah Mall II Jakarta, Following the Day 1 of the event, A Touch of Jazz, Day 2 started again on time at 19.00, opened with a short introduction from Ireng Maulana - the brain of JakJazz that should be proud to see how great the show went on yesterday and wishing a great show also at day 2.
The night started with a combo jazz band came from Galaxy Big Band. Like its name the band has the classic big band formation, with the personnel consists of expatriate that mostly came from Japan who has been staying in Indonesia for so many years. The 21 piece band got together on stage, 3 Indonesians, a Spaniard and the rest were Japanese. They warmed the night with classic swingin’ jazz and managed to get a lot of attention from by-passers to jazz lovers who came to Pondok Indah Mall. Yu, A trumpet player for Galaxy Big Band was really happy to play at A Touch of Jazz last night. He was very much delighted to see how Indonesian love jazz and he was surprised to feel how great jazz as a genre grow in Indonesia.
D’Viaz then took over the stage after a 45 minutes of swingin’ from Galaxy Big Band. D’viaz, another new rising star in Indonesia with members, Dino on keyboard, Vian on vocal, Inal on bass, Albert on guitar and a special guest for A Touch of Jazz last night was Muhono on Drum. They played 11 songs on the stage that managed to get a lot of youngsters attention with their mixture of fusion, funk, soul and even pop as a style – a mixture that would easily blend into the crowd. They are realeasing their album early next year most probably on February and hoping that they will be able to give another big hit to Indonesian music industry. According to D’Viaz, A Touch of Jazz is an event that can accomodate young musician talents, where they can explore, sing, laugh, and improve their skills. They were really excited to be able to play at A Touch of Jazz and wish the crowd love their music.
As what Rully Mangunsong said on the Press Conference on 2nd December 2009, Jakjazz or the mini-size of it, this year’s A Touch of Jazz now is a place where anyone can learn, anyone can enjoy and enyone can promote their music skills. We got Ari Kurniawan on day 1 then D’Viaz on day 2 with great music skills showed that young people now does value great music. Day one and day two is a big success.
The closing tomorrow for A Touch of Jazz will be held at Aiman Planet Lounge, Lagoon Tower Sultan Hotel Jakarta at 06:30 PM – 00:00 PM with the performances of : Ireng Maulana & Friends (Indonesia), Farah Di – a twelve years old Indonesian jazz vocalist, M-Jazz Trio (Malaysia), Curtis King Band (Thailand), Lica Cecato – Valtinho Anastacio (Brazil).
