A Touch of Jazz : A Special Treat from JakJazz Day 1
“This is what we call good music, good ambience and good jazz.” That’s what I over heard from one of the by-passers in Pondok Indah Mall II Jakarta. A Touch of Jazz started on time at 19.00 sharp with a short introduction from Ireng Maulana as the brain of JakJazz which sadly had to be cancelled, yet the cancellation does not mean a thing now, looking at how great the show went on earlier this evening, as the day 1 of special treat from JakJazz Pro, A Touch of Jazz.
Two artists with different type of jazz, with different style of performance gave a great impression for Jakjazz and the jazz itself this evening. Ari Kurniawan and Friends started the evening with great funk-flowing jazz, accompanied by Idham Nursaid on Trumpet, Adi Dharmawan on bass, Cendy Luntungan on drum, Tepy on Keyboard, Imaniar , Aldisyah on vocal and Ari Kurniawan himself on Saxophone. Ari Kurniawan is an Indonesian Rising Star, he will release his first solo album soon and he will collaborate with so many senior artist for this first album. On the stage earlier he played with senior players and he said he was very much honored and so glad to be able to play at A Touch of Jazz. Idham Nursaid also said earlier after he played on the stage that he really enjoyed the show and jazz itself. It was made for free so everybody could enjoy. It’s a music that “well-preserved” with good ambience, it’s a good music that will stay forever that way.
After an hour of marvellous jazz from Ari Kurniawan and friends, Time Wrap took over the stage and give a superb ‘edgy-jazz’ as said by Tom Fraser a bassist fom Time Wrap. Wearing the costume of the legendary Blues Brothers, Time Wrap is a group of jazzer comes from 3 different continents: USA, Australia and UK. Accompanied by 6 Indonesian musicians, Time Wrap really Wrap us to different world in jazz. It’s Funk, Classic Soul, Rock n Roll, Blues, altogether from Memphis Tennesse, it’s everything in one. Ben Downson, Sherly O, Hosdiman Siagian, Marwanto, Nadjib Osman give a superb, marvellous, and I even ran out for words to describe how great the performance was. People from young to old, by-passers, jazz lovers and even the comittee of A Touch of Jazz themselves danced and moved to the rhythm created by them. Who wouldn’t? It was just so tempting that you couldn’t resists.
Maybe we were dissapointed when we heard the news that Jakjazz 2009 was postponed to next year, but who would now? We still have a great show, great audiences, great musician and amazing jazz! Day one is over, we’ll see you tomorrow day two – A Touch of Jazz, still In Pondok Indah Mall II Jakarta at 19.00 to 21.00 with the performances of Galaxy Big Band (Japan) and D’Viaz (Indonesia) and FREE of CHARGE, anyone is welcome, everyone is welcome..
see you tomorrow!
