As we mentioned earlier, on the confirmed list you see Soulbop Special Edition. Some of you might never heard about this group before, some have, but still confuse about the additional  “special edition” tag.  Actually this is a group that you should not miss by any chance.

Soulbop is a group built by two senior musicians who have been establishing their career for more than two decades ago, Bill Evans and Randy Brecker. Bill Evans, the saxophonist have achieved several Grammy Awards nomination and marked his path in several fields, from jazz, funk, Brazilian and even hip hop. On the other side, we have Randy Brecker, a senior trumpetist that has been doing it for three decades. Together they have performed or recorded with many other stars. Name some like Chaka Khan, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, James Taylor, Parliament/Funkadelic, Miles Davis and many, many more. With these historical journey they travelled together, no wonder they have established a strong chemistry with each other, which continued on to be the beginning of a very special group called Soulbop.

Soon when you see them performing live on stage at Java Jazz Festival 2010, you will see that this group is not just an ordinary group. It’s always been a melting pot of talents, some of the best one in the world. It’s going to be great to see them live just in front of us. And it gets even more interesting with the Special Edition thingy, because that means Bill Evans and Randy Brecker will be backed up by some other big guns in the music world! The former guitarist and the brain of TOTO, Steve Lukather will be there, along with drummer Rodney Holmes, the blues wizard Robben Ford (check out our Exclusive Interview with Robben Ford here), and last but not least, bassist Darryl Jones. With this very heavy lineups, no wonder it’s called Soulbop Special Edition.

That’s one of the highlight of next year’s AXIS Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2010.  Now let’s see  the most recent lineups so far, both confirmed and in-progress.
