Java Jazz Festival 2010: Babyface, The Manhattan Transfer, Roy Hargrove and Roberta Gambarini Have Confirmed
The lineup for the upcoming AXIS Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival 2010 is getting heavier. Just several days ago we got the final confirmation that The Manhattan Transfer will return once again to grace the Java Jazz Festival stage just like how they did in Java Jazz Festival 2008. By that time, Janis Siegel, Tim Hauser, Alan Paul and Cheryl Bentyne poured down their magic and stunned all the lucky audience. If we talk about jazz vocal group, we will directly think of The Manhattan Transfer. They have successfully established themselves as one of the best jazz vocal group in the history with a long spanning career since 1975. Many Grammys have been listed as their achievements, also was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998.
Right after the release of their latest CD “The Chick Corea songbook” in September 2009, The Manhattan Transfer will once again perform exclusively at Java Jazz Festival 2010 with this concept. The Manhattan Transfer performing Chick Corea’s Songbook will be one of their presentation this year, and also another performance with Ron King Big Band. It’s going to be another new experience to see the legendary vocal group bring the everlasting collections of the legendary artist, that’s for sure. This is something that you won’t want to miss.
And now, another big news have arrived. Just several days after the new year, we got another confirmations from Java Festival Production. Three other famous international stars have made their agreement to join the lineup. Kenny Edmonds, better known as BABYFACE will make his return at Java Jazz Festival 2010 after his tremendous performance in 2008′s Java Jazz Festival. This multitalented artist (BABYFACE is a successful singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist, music and film producer and also an enterpreneur) will surely catch the heart of his fans once again just like he did two years ago. It’s going to be a golden opportunity for you to see him live just in case you missed his performance back then, and it will be another dream come true for you, all his fans who enjoyed his appearance in 2008.
Besides BABYFACE, we also got the confirmations from vocalist Roberta Gambarini and trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Originally came from Turin Italy, Grammy Nominee Roberta Gambarini was heavily inspired by some jazz icons such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae and Billie Holiday. Later he competed in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition and won the third place, behind Teri Thornton and Jane Monheit. As Jane Monheit will appear at Java Jazz Festival 2010, we believe it will be a sweet reunion between them once again. Don’t forget to mark Roberta Gambarini Trio in your must-see list. The two times Grammy winner Roy Hargrove is another big cat in the jazz scene. Unlike many other trumpeters, Hargrove has his noticable style, usually by fusing jazz, funk, soul, hiphop and gospel as his trademark. Having played together with legends such as Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock, Hargrove is a trumpeter with remarkable experience that definately worth to see. For Java Jazz Festival 2010 he will appear with his quintet, Roy Hargrove Quintet.
