This is interesting. I’ve been living my life with jazz all along, and there are times I need something to spice up my life through what I’ve been listening. And when I was in that point several days ago, a friends of mine came and told me about Alisa. I went to her website, and..voila! I just fell in love instantly, not only with her voice, but also with her songs. This is the kind of album that breath a fresh air into our soul.
Alisa Ohri is a natural talent that we don’t find every day. Her soulful and soothing voice works perfectly with her music style. It’s neo soul at its best, and you just feel it from the beginning to the end. Sophisticated blending between soulful R&B and sweet taste of jazz, shaped in many different colors, freely and naturally, delivered with superb vocal quality that will leave you asking for more. She’s like the modern day of Patti Austin or Roberta Flack‘s delicious soul touch.

What makes me smile is this. Through her songs, she creates a path into an inspirational journey of truth about daily love and romance. She keeps it plain and simple, reminding you the life you’ve been living everyday. Just simply celebrating being ordinary. It’s like looking at our own lives through the window of Alisa’s soul. All served in nice groovy rhythm and catchy tunes.
The album starts with the title song, “Cuz I Feel”. This song will make a radio hit anytime. This song with a really nice groove tells about the not-so-easy kind of life, but she doesn’t stop there. She also describes how she deals with it. This one is my favorite from the album. I can’t stop listening to it. “We Are Survivin’” gives a nice perspective of life positively. “Could It Be” served with a light reggae touch in delicious taste of jazz. Then get ready with the foot-tapping and head-nodding song, “Just Stay”. The nice bass groove is here. The tempo’s raised up with “Your Smile”. This one has the touch of groovy acid/nu jazz beat with catchy flute sound. Love it. The smooth “Blue In Green” comes next. This song is a perfect blend between smooth jazz and smooth soul R&B. The funky “I Love You Sometimes” is another delicious song from the CD. Then the classical R&B style presented stylishly in “Miss Ohri Regrets”. “It’s OK To Love” is the closing. Another nice steady rhythm of soulful song in jazz tunes. Sweet.
She’s an amazing independent artist with true talent that you will definately love right away. Her soulful voice, her honest and sincere lyrics, the ellegance of her style, all pointed out to the best you can get through the music. Independent music can be a good choice for an artist to express their feelings freely, and Alisa proves it. Her honest story telling of living her ordinary life is a mirror of what we experience every day. And don’t forget the nice music as well. Alisa Ohri‘s debut album “Cuz I Feel” represents the best of neo soul, giving you the nice perspective of how soulful R&B could blend harmoniously with smooth jazz and should definately be added to your playlist.
